Dr. Mark Seton has done sixteen years of research into creativity, complexity and resilience in arts and other professions (law, medicine) where vulnerability is unavoidable in dealing with demanding situations. He has taught in a whole range of academic and organizational settings. He is a certified InterPlay Leader and has served as Chair of the InterPlay Australia, Inc. Board.

Working first with actors taking on demanding roles, Seton developed the concept of “Resilient Vulnerability©” which can apply to anyone who may need to “let go” or “shake off” a difficult role. He considers InterPlay as integral to the process.

In this presentation, Mark will share the seven elements that foster Resilient Vulnerability: presence, perception, preparation, process, perspective, partnership and play. With these, one can sustain an easeful vulnerability, rather than “armoring up” against challenging activities or interactions..

Mark Seton
Mark is a performer, writer, dramaturge, and lecturer in the performing arts and screen studies. He has also worked as a writer, director, video and sound editor in corporate and educational video production. He has been a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Australian College of Theology since 2000. His special interests are creating performing arts training practices that are both ethical and sustainable, and, facilitating conversations in organisations that can nurture creativity and innovation. As a 2009 Churchill Fellowship recipient, he has returned from a study tour of performance training in the UK and is working to promote psychological and emotional well-being of actors both in training and in the workplace in Australia. He has co-designed a course on Teaching Creative Practice for the Australian Film TV and Radio School which incorporates many InterPlay forms. He has a BA (Majors in Theatre and Philosophy), Grad. Dip. in Arts by Research (Theatre) and a PhD in Performance Studies.
