Join Masankho Kamsisi Banda (www.ucandanc.org) for a weekend of dancing and playing, drumming and leading, May 6-8th, 2011.. Masankho will lead a Friday through Sunday event culminating in an informal performance open to the public on Sunday afternoon. The Friday night session will also be open to the public if you want to get a taste of Masankho's special gifts.

Masankho will weave the theme of "Ancestors" throughout the weekend.

Masankho is an international InterPlay leader, storyteller, dancer/drummer, and educator specializing in the African Healing Arts, and Peacemaking. I find that he brings unique experience as well as an enlivening, empowering approach to creating in community. In his workshops, I felt in a new way the unique offering my voice, my story, my dance in life brings--not only to those immediately around me in the moment, but to my people, my communities wherever and whomever they are--and to the world.

Terpsicorps Studio

The Wedge Building, 129 Roberts St.

The Terpsicorps Studio is upstairs in the Wedge Building, in the historic River Arts District of Asheville. (directions on web page, under "studio" tab) Folks can park along Roberts Street for free, or in the lot around back/below the building (also free). To get to the back lot, turn onto Roberts Street from Clingman. Go to the stop sign. Go to the stop sign and take a R. Take an immediate R and drive around behind the building. You want to park behind the building and walk around to the front. There are stairs to your R when you are looking at the back of the building. The Wedge Building is shared by a number of artist studios. To get to the Terspicorps Studio, enter the solid glass door, go up the stairs, around to the left, and all the way to the end of the hall. You will pass bathrooms and a water fountain on your left in the hall. The dance floor is about 1500 sq ft, raised Marley floor with a little space around it on three sides, barres, and mirrors.

Masankho is a multi - disciplinary Performing Artist, Certified InterPlay Leader, Educator and PeaceBuilder. He brings many unique perspectives to his work around the world. He learned the fine arts of storytelling and dance from his Malawian culture spending many long days and nights listening to stories and dancing to music that captivated his mind, shaped his being, nourished his soul and strengthened his spirit. Using performing arts Masankho motivates and inspires people of all ages to work together to bring about peace, social justice and cultural understanding. In 1997, he started UCanDanc—African Healing Arts to bring his passion for dance and storytelling to communities around the world. Masankho has been a Certified InterPlay Leader since 1999.
