In this day and age it is important for us to be aware of social media as a powerful tool for artists and entrepreneurs. Whatever medium you work in you cannot escape the fact that social media is a necessary and important tool. In the first hour of this workshop, we will introduce participants to the basics of social media.

In the last two hours, we will delve deeper into the usage of social media sites. Say you have a Facebook page, Twitter account and perhaps some other social media connections but do you know how to leverage those outlets to help you grow your artistic or business endeavors. This workshop will help you leverage social media to positively impact your career as a performing artist, entrepreneur or whatever other line of work you are in.

Methodology:

There are many social media sites. In this workshop we will focus on:
Facebook.com / Twitter.com / Linkedin.com / Youtube.com
We will guide you on what these sites are and how you can benefit using them. This will be an interactive workshop. All participants are invited to bring laptops so that you can follow along and if you wish can set up accounts on all these social media sites.

Specific learning objectives:
· Introduction to social media and its function and possible usage
· Demonstration of how social media builds community
· Illustration of how social media be used to keep up with emerging trends in participants’ professional industry and areas of interests
· Exploration of ways to use social media to enhance your artistic and business endeavors
· To establish a strategy for marketing your endeavors on social media
· Exploration of ways to grow an audience and client base through social media sites.

TAHIRA and Masankho: We are Professional Storytellers who have been performing and leading workshops for the past 20 years all over the United States and around the world. We have both proficient users of social media for many years. We bring you what we have learned which has immensely helped us in our work as performing artists and artist entrepreneurs.

Masankho Banda

Masankho is a multi - disciplinary Performing Artist, Certified InterPlay Leader, Educator and PeaceBuilder. He brings many unique perspectives to his work around the world. He learned the fine arts of storytelling and dance from his Malawian culture spending many long days and nights listening to stories and dancing to music that captivated his mind, shaped his being, nourished his soul and strengthened his spirit. Using performing arts Masankho motivates and inspires people of all ages to work together to bring about peace, social justice and cultural understanding. In 1997, he started UCanDanc—African Healing Arts to bring his passion for dance and storytelling to communities around the world. Masankho has been a Certified InterPlay Leader since 1999.
