The art and craft of mentoring and encouraging

“Secrets 3”

an event for members of the InterPlay Leaders Circle
Phil Porter and Cynthia Winton-Henry

Oakland, CA

April 4-7, 2013 • Thursday 7 pm to Sunday 4 pm

For the first time we offer more Secrets to experienced leaders of InterPlay! Join InterPlay co-founders Cynthia Winton-Henry and Phil Porter for a weekend exploring some of the tools and skills that can enhance the leading of InterPlay. This event is open to members of the InterPlay Leaders Circle.

We call this “Secrets 3” building on “The Secrets of InterPlay” which is part of the Life Practice Program and “The Secrets of Leading InterPlay” which is part of the Leader Training Program.

We will focus in particular on interpersonal ability—how do we do the best job of encouraging the wonderful individuals we get to play with in our classes and events? We will cover several topics including (but not limited to!):

• the subtleties of mentoring and encouraging individuals
• sensitivity to the group body
• exploring cultural difference and cultural humility
• the role of mystery and spirit
• careful listening and discernment
• when to push and when to hold back in your leadership
• what we long for in an ongoing community
• attracting people to InterPlay
• supporting other leaders

This weekend will also be a powerful opportunity to gather with InterPlay peers, to share insights, questions and concerns. You will get to help shape the agenda! There will be plenty of time for your specific questions and for conversation in pairs, small groups and in the whole group. And we will play and create and laugh and goof around!

This event will take place at InterPlayce and we will provide information about local housing that you can arrange for yourself.

A special treat of this time is that you will get to experience “First Friday” on April 5. The street outside Telegraph and in several blocks in each direction becomes a giant street festival with vendors, musicians, artists and a “happening” crowd.

Our meeting schedule will be:

Thursday • 7–9 pm
Friday • 9– 12 pm (including taking part in Cynthia’s ongoing Friday morning class); 1:30-4 pm; “First Friday” in the evening (optional)
Saturday 9:30–noon; 1:30–4 pm; optional Saturday something (dinner? Playing? Time off?)
Sunday 9:30–noon; 1:30–4 pm

Cost: $395

Registration/Information: Call the InterPlay office at 510/465-2797
