An Altarpiece to Alter Peace

Kansas City, MO
Friday-Sunday, July 12-14, 2013
Is it time to build a new altar for peace, a peace for Earth and all people?
Kansas City premieres this "Altarpiece to Alter Piece" workshop-celebration, originally created as a performance for the stage by Soyinka Rahim in the San Francisco Bay Area. The underlying intent is to uplift humanity's dream for peace by exploring a universal practice of honoring the Earth and altar-making.
Altars tell us what is important. Using the InterPlay process, noted internationally for accessible creative practices, we will play with elemental movement, story, breath and song to engage our common connection with Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. In the process, we'll find multicultural stories and wisdom to weave into a visual, kinetic closing peace celebration.
Each segment of the weekend is designed to highlight an Earth element through artful altar making and creative processes where young and old can find new ways to strengthen personal and collective life in the world. This intergenerational workshop is open to everyone. If you have a song, a poem, a dream, a need for hope this could be the place for you.
