InterPlay Race Dances

Honoring ourselves as whole people engaging and talking about race.

Franktown, VA

Friday, May 9 • 7-9 pm and Saturday, May 10 • (9 am–9 pm with lunch, dinner, and breaks.)

Everyone is welcome to participate in this Eastern Shore InterPlay Race Dances program where we will explore personally meaningful questions and experiences regarding race, racism, and social action. Soyinka Rahim and Cynthia Winton-Henry, both based in Oakland, California will serve as our facilitators.

Participants learn ways to
*form a common collective wisdom
*honor one another and our experiences
*welcome a wide range of expression
*open doors and widen circles
*listen, witness, and affirm each other

Both women know the challenge and joy of bringing creativity and love to people who may or may not be ready to address differences. Called to build altars of hope for a new day, Soyinka and Cynthia share their own stories and us InterPlay to help groups connect in new and exciting ways.

This is a free event and meals will also be provided free of charge. The costs of bringing Cynthia and Soyinka to the Shore, however are considerable. We believe in the importance of what we are doing and so do our sponsors. To offset expenses we ask you to consider making a love offering. Donations can be made payable to body Wisdom, Inc., and included with your registration or can be made at the event. We appreciate any assistance you are able to give.

Cynthia Winton-Henry is co-founder of InterPlay which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. She is a teacher, author, artist, and performer who has led workshops worldwide and served as an ordained minister for twenty years.

Soyinka Rahim, founder of Our Thing Arts Company, has performed with modern and ethnic dance companies, including Wing It! Performance Ensemble where she and Cynthia met and began collaborating. An InterPlay leader, Soyinka uses music, storytelling and dance to raise community spirit, and has taught groups for thirty years. Here on the Eastern Shore she offered a series of workshops in 2011.
