Bringing beauty to grief and loss of place

InterPlay Art Responders! For Places Lost in Fire

Honoring the Loss of Sacred Space at First Church Berkeley

Berkeley, CA

November 27, 3-4:15

InterPlay Art Responders will honor Pilgrim Hall, the part of First Church Berkeley that was destroyed by fire on September 30, with a simple ritual of music, movement, stillness and reverence. The event will take place on the front lawn of the church from 3–4 pm.

The ritual will honor the grief over the loss of a space for the First Church community as well as other individuals and groups for whom the church was a gathering place. The InterPlay community has held countless rehearsals, performances, and events for over 25 years.

The response, which will also be an expression of gratitude, will be led by Cynthia Winton-Henry, co-founder of InterPlay, Elizabeth Middleburg and cellist Catherine Jolly. The three are part of a national InterPlay healing response offered to people and places where violence or destruction has occurred.

If you are an InterPlayer and would like to perform, please come to the corner of First Presbyterian Church at 3pm sharp to get oriented. We also need chaplains and witnesses.

Cost: Free
