Children, Trauma, Resilience & InterPlay

Beth Sarver, InterPlay Leader and Resilience Coordinator at the Academy for Integrated Arts in Kansas City, Missouri, is using the body wisdom practices and forms of InterPlay to deal with the behavioral challenges of children affected by trauma. She is building a recipe for a trauma sensitive Resilient School Culture that reduces the use of seclusion and restraints in behavioral interventions and that minimizes traumatic reenactments between members of school communities.

The work of Trauma Sensitive Schools also known as Resilient Schools has become more and more widespread and is even making its way into the legislative agendas of states all over the US. This work seeks to raise awareness about the high prevalence of trauma and the impact that trauma has on behavior, learning and organizational culture.
