Telling Our Own Stories: An InterPlay White Awake Space

Karen Hatch, Katharine Forline, Christine Gautreaux, MSW, and Daniel Dilliplane

“Body Wisdom recognizes that all human ancestry is African ancestry; that racial classifications by design divide the body of the whole, specifically exploiting people of color, our sense of self, culture and resources, while intentionally granting privilege, wealth, and power to people of European descent.”
from InterPlay’s Commitment to Racial Equity & Transformation

Acknowledging ourselves through the lens of whiteness and understanding more about the white supremacy culture that has dominated our lives is so complicated and yes, time consuming. As best as we can, if we’re committed to anti-racism and Racial Equity and Transformation it will require learning and unlearning for nothing less than the rest of our lives.

Twice a month Karen Hatch and fellow InterPlayers (Katy Forline, Dan Dilliplane, Christine Gautreaux and others) will offer space for those of us that identify as White to share and unpack our stories in a small group using InterPlay forms.

We’ll warm up together and share some time in break out rooms for little tellings and to check in, but our main focus will be on each participant’s DT3 or Big Body Story which we’ll all witness.

The storyteller will then have the opportunity to notice and ask for what she/he/they would like from witnesses.

We want to hold one another accountable while meeting folks where they are with compassion. We’ll affirm bravery and vulnerability while leaning into our discomfort and learn together in the physicality of grace.

This practice together and deeper dive will be limited to five folks per session and registration in advance using SignUpGenius is required.
Sessions are free of charge. In lieu of a fee, donations to the RET mini-grant fund are welcomed.

Cost: Free or contribution to InterPlay RET mini-grants
