A rich weekend of insights into bringing InterPlay to youth (K-12)! Between them, Diane and Masankho have many years of experience teaching kids InterPlay, African dance, modern dance, & storytelling. Learn tools to work with this age group. Discover tricks to understand the »system« you are in and how to work within it for the benefit of the kids whether you work in an educational setting with teachers, administration, etc., or another format. Learn to use InterPlay to teach life lessons of peace, diversity, acceptance, leadership, and goal-setting. If you work with youth and want to enhance your skills and learn new tricks this is the weekend for you!
Diane Rawlinson, M.F.A, teaches dance in a public high school outside of Chicago. An InterPlayer from the start, she incorporates InterPlay forms and philosophies within her curriculum. Diane is a contributing editor to two national dance magazines, Dance Spirit, and Dance Teacher, and she was a finalist for the 2002 National Dance Educator Award.
Masankho Banda, acclaimed African performance artist and peace activist, teaches children of all ages in schools, churches, and troubled areas of the world. In 1987, Banda fled his native Malawi where his father spent 12 years jailed as a political prisoner. Since then, Banda has used performance art to work toward peace around the world and has traveled on peace education trips to Sierra Leone, Bali, Malawi, South Africa, and Croatia. Banda received a 2001 »Heros of Peace« award from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

InterPlayce is the center of the InterPlay universe. The offices for Body Wisdom, Inc. are also located here. The building is at the corner of 23rd and Telegraph, one block north of West Grand. It is just a few blocks from the 19th Street Downtown Oakland BART station, and on several convenient bus lines. On-street parking is always available at night and metered during the day. It is also easily accessible by several of the major freeways.

Diane Rawlinson
Diane holds an undergraduate degree in Dance Education from Ohio State and an MFA in performance and choreography from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has served on the dance faculties at the University of Akron, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Northwestern University. Currently Diane is on the faculty at Loyola University of Chicago coordinating the Masters In Education/Dance Endorsement Partnership with the Chicago Public Schools. From 1991-2021 she taught dance, fine arts, and yoga at Wheeling High School in Illinois and uses InterPlay within the curriculum. Diane has introduced thousands of teens to InterPlay both at Wheeling and in workshop settings for dancers, poets, and theatre students in at state and national level conferences. She has also presented numerous workshops for educators on local and national levels. She is proud to be one of the first leaders certified by Phil and Cynthia...way back when...
Diane is a wife, mother (of two adult sons), and was an active volunteer on Chicago's Dance for Life. She was a contributing editor/writer for Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher magazines (NYC) since from 1997-2019 with over 100 articles published. In 2002 she was named the NDA (National Dance Association) Midwest Dance Educator, in 2007 she was named University of Wisconsin Madison School of Education Distinguished Alumni Award receipient and credits InterPlay as the unique part of her work in the schools. In 2014 Diane was awarded Chicago's Ruth Page Award for her work as an advocate, mentor and educator.

Masankho Banda
Masankho is a multi - disciplinary Performing Artist, Certified InterPlay Leader, Educator and PeaceBuilder. He brings many unique perspectives to his work around the world. He learned the fine arts of storytelling and dance from his Malawian culture spending many long days and nights listening to stories and dancing to music that captivated his mind, shaped his being, nourished his soul and strengthened his spirit. Using performing arts Masankho motivates and inspires people of all ages to work together to bring about peace, social justice and cultural understanding. In 1997, he started UCanDanc—African Healing Arts to bring his passion for dance and storytelling to communities around the world. Masankho has been a Certified InterPlay Leader since 1999.
