A Symplaysium on Worship and InterPlay
The Church Embodied
Randy Newswanger

Newton Centre, MA
4 days October 2 - 5: Monday evening through Thursday noon
Have you been creating with InterPlay in Christian Worship, Ritual, and Life? Would you like to play with others, experiment with forms, discuss your experiences and exform your life while also claiming the language of Christianity? Come Play in Boston!
In many InterPlay contexts we intentionally focus on language and philosophy of the spirit without addressing the specific language of a particular religious tradition. However some of us play daily and weekly with Christian practice, language and forms. We create a tasty fusion cuisine of InterPlay in Christian context. Robin and Randy believe there is much to learn from telling our stories and experiences, as well as demonstrating and practicing the forms we have created specifically for Christian contexts.
We envision a midweek retreat from Monday evening, October 2 through Thursday noon, October 5 at Andover Newton Theological School in Boston. We expect to play together using InterPlay forms, demonstrate specific forms we''ve created for Christian contexts, and improvise worship and Christian ritual together.
Robin Lunn is a dancer, an American Baptist pastor, and InterPlayer living in Vermont who seeks to bring radical embodiment back to the church. She has used InterPlay forms in various worship settings, led InterPlay workshops at the VT Annual Conference of the UCC, and begun the Experiment in Improvisational Worship at Andover Newton Theological School.
Randy Newswanger is active in lay leadership at First Mennonite Church of San Francisco, and Metropolitan Community Church of San Francisco. He has taught InterPlay at church retreats, danced big body stories as sermons, and asked many people to take a deep breath.
If you are excited and enthused by this idea, if you have questions, if you want more information contact Robin or Randy.
