Second Saturday with Rev. Jojo Gabuya

One of the most nourishing ways to spend an afternoon!
Josefina V Gabuya

Oakland, CA

Saturday, January 10, 2025, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.

Please join us for an afternoon of fun and community. Rev. Jojo Gabuya will lead you in developing compassion for yourself and others and in connecting with a Sacred Reality, through movement, poetry, storytelling, sound, and other art forms of InterPlay.

This class is part of the Oakland InterPlay second Saturday Leader Showcase series. Come join us for two and a half hours of facilitated connection, expression, and play on the second Saturday of the month. Come to as many or as few as you like. Each month a different Bay Area leader will guide the group, using the forms of InterPlay and the wisdom of the body to facilitate connection to others and ourselves in the grounded, playful ways that InterPlay makes easy. These workshops are great for any level of InterPlay experience, whether you are new to InterPlay or have been to the studio many times.

COVID & Health Protocol: If you’ve been sick or been around someone who’s been sick in the last five days, please stay home and join us another time. Masks are welcome, but not required. We have high ceilings and run an air purifier.

Transportation and parking: Our lovely studio is in urban Oakland. If driving, we recommend parking on major streets like Grand Avenue and Telegraph Avenue (and not 23rd) and not leaving things in your vehicle. If you pay for parking with the Park Mobile app it will be easy to add more to the meter virtually. We are also close to BART, several bus lines, and protected bike paths. There is good bike parking on Telegraph, and you're also welcome to bring your bike inside the studio.

Are you a certified InterPlay leader or someone working on your certification who would like to lead as part of this series? Please reach out to Amos Lans or John Diller via the links or phone numbers in the InterPlay Leaders section of the website. We welcome local and visiting leaders.

Leaders
Josefina V Gabuya
Rev. Jojo V. Gabuya (They, Them, Their), MA, MDiv, is a Certified InterPlay Leader, Chaplain and Pastoral Care Minister, Happiness and Well-being Coach, Gluten-free and Vegan Chef, and Social Justice-focused Interfaith Leader. Rev. Jojo uses InterPlay and other mindfulness and somatic practices in facilitating workshops, such as: “Transforming Oneself and Society: A Holistic Approach,” “Integrating Body, Heart, Mind, and Spirit Through InterPlay,” and “Loving Yourself, Living Life Fully, and Finding Your Rhythm of Compassion,” for Their TransFaith and Action Network. Rev. Jojo teamed up with fellow BIPOC InterPlay Leaders in organizing and facilitating “Body Wisdom’s Elemental Magic: To Amplify BIPOC Body Wisdom,” and “Root to the Bone,” an Interplay Untensive, which invited us to listen to our ancestral wisdom, honor our root systems, and move toward collective healing and transformation. And, They facilitated health and wellness workshops, which utilized the Core Elements of InterPlay, for college students in Merced County where They worked as a campus minister for four years. As a Hospice Chaplain and as a Pastoral Care Minister, Rev. Jojo has witnessed how movement, music, storytelling, and other art forms that are part of InterPlay's resources and tools, can provide comfort, ease, joy, healing, and peace to older adults who are either experiencing memory loss or suffering from trauma. Thus, Rev. Jojo has continued her Ph.D program in Practical Theology at Claremont School of theology. Last Fall Semester 2024, Rev. Jojo wrote a paper, “Empowering and Healing Formerly Incarcerated Melanin-Dominant Women Through InterPlay,” inspired by the untiring efforts of Women Healing and Empowering Women (WHEW), to complete the requirements for Their Liberation Psychology class.
